11-Year-Old Girl Killed in Brooklyn School Bus Accident

BATH BEACH, Brooklyn — An 11-year-old girl, Amira Aminova, was killed Thursday afternoon after being struck by a school bus while crossing Bath Avenue near 23rd Avenue.

According to the NYPD, the incident occurred just after 3 p.m. Aminova was in the crosswalk when the school bus, driven by Wawa Aurelus, 62, made a right turn. She was transported to a hospital with serious injuries but was pronounced dead.

Witnesses said Aminova was attempting to cross quickly and was very close to her home at the time. Surveillance footage reportedly shows her running in the crosswalk as the bus approached.

The bus driver initially left the scene but was later arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care. Authorities said the incident appears to be accidental, and no further criminal charges are expected.

The incident is under investigation, and police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The community and Aminova’s family are mourning her sudden and tragic death.
