FULTON, Miss. — Authorities are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of Gavin Bryce Boswell, 14, on Friday evening in Itawamba County.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), the crash occurred at approximately 5:02 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the intersection of Highway 76 and Highway 23.
Troopers reported that a 2016 Chrysler 200, driven by 22-year-old Kelli J. Franklin of Hernando, was traveling westbound on Highway 76 when it collided with a 2016 Kia Optima traveling northbound on Highway 23. The Kia was driven by 36-year-old Wendy J. Mayhall of Tremont.
Gavin Bryce Boswell was one of four minor children riding as passengers in the Kia. Authorities confirmed that one child, later identified as Boswell, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Franklin sustained injuries and was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo for treatment. Mayhall was also injured and taken to Red Bay Hospital in Alabama. Of the remaining children in the Kia, one was transported to Red Bay Hospital, while two others were airlifted to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis for further medical care.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details regarding contributing factors or potential charges have been released at this time.
