20-Year-Old Bay City Motorcyclist Dies After Crash on FM 1495 Near Port Freeport

FREEPORT, Texas — A 20-year-old Bay City man has died following a two-vehicle crash early Friday morning in front of Port Freeport, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 6:40 a.m. in the 1000 block of FM 1495 when a 2021 Harley-Davidson motorcycle collided with a gray 2018 Hyundai Sonata, according to Freeport Police Lt. Craig Graham. Investigators determined that the driver of the Sonata pulled into the path of the motorcycle while attempting to turn left.

The motorcyclist, identified as Carson Dilleree of Bay City, and the 19-year-old Freeport man driving the Hyundai were both transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Health–Brazosport Hospital in Lake Jackson. Dilleree later died from his injuries at the hospital.

Police cited the Hyundai driver for failure to yield the right of way while turning left. Authorities believe inattention and weather-related visibility issues contributed to the crash, as heavy fog covered the coastal area Friday morning.

The incident remains under investigation.

Dilleree’s death marks a tragic loss for his family, friends, and the Bay City community as they mourn a young life cut short.
