EL PASO, Texas — The community is mourning the tragic loss of Fernando Aria Jr., 29, who was killed early Monday morning following a crash on Interstate 10 in Far East El Paso.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal collision occurred around 1:40 a.m. on I-10 East near Eastlake Boulevard. Investigators said Fernando was driving a white Kia when he was reportedly speeding and failed to control his vehicle, rear-ending a semi-truck traveling on the interstate.
Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, but Fernando sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. The driver of the semi-truck was not reported to be injured.
The crash resulted in the closure of all eastbound lanes of I-10 at Eastlake Boulevard for several hours while authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the roadway. Lanes were reopened by approximately 9 a.m., according to El Paso Police traffic updates.
