Three Killed in Robstown-Area Crash After Pickup Runs Stop Sign

ROBSTOWN, Texas — The Robstown and Corpus Christi communities are mourning the tragic loss of Randy Rubio, 35, and two of his children following a devastating crash at a rural intersection southwest of Robstown, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:44 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, at the intersection of County Road 77 and County Road 36. Investigators said Rubio was driving a 2005 Buick Rendezvous when it was struck on the driver’s side by a 2019 Ford Ranger that failed to stop at a posted stop sign while traveling westbound on County Road 36. The force of the impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway.

Randy Rubio was pronounced dead at the scene. One of his children, 4 years old, was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital, where the child died early the following morning. A second child, 12 years old, later succumbed to injuries on Sunday, January 18.

A third child, 5 years old, was critically injured and remains hospitalized at Driscoll Children’s Hospital. The child’s current condition has not been released.

The driver of the Ford Ranger was transported by Halo Flight to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation by troopers with the Highway Patrol Office in Corpus Christi as authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
