In Loving Memory of Darnell McKinney Jr

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Cincinnati community is mourning the tragic loss of Darnell McKinney Jr., 49, who died in a head-on crash on I-71 northbound near the Kings Mills exit in Warren County on Monday, January 19, 2026.

McKinney was driving a 2002 Honda Odyssey northbound when a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Micaela Pedicone, 28, crossed the median from southbound lanes and collided with his vehicle. He died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Family members describe McKinney as a loving father, grandfather, son, and uncle, who brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. His daughter, Ta’Cora McKinney, said he was loved by all from the children he worked with to his coworkers and family  and that he always made people smile. His kindness, warmth, and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

McKinney’s passing is a profound loss for his family and the Cincinnati community. He will be remembered for his infectious smile, dependable nature, and the love he shared freely with everyone around him.

The crash scene was assisted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, the Warren County Coroner’s Office, and the fire departments from Union Township, Deerfield Township, and Hamilton Township. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
