The Chesterfield community is grieving the tragic loss of Sheldon Moree, age 25, who died in a fatal workplace accident on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
At approximately 5:35 p.m., emergency dispatchers were alerted to an incident at an industrial well drilling site in the Bethune area of Kershaw County. Upon arrival, responders discovered that Sheldon had suffered a fatal electrocution and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Coroner David West confirmed the death and stated that the incident is being thoroughly investigated by the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office in coordination with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Details regarding how the accident occurred are still under review.
Sheldon Moree’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and coworkers. He is remembered for his dedication, his strong work ethic, and the positive presence he brought to those around him.
