HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. — The Huntington community is mourning the tragic loss of Melanie R. Meyers, 51, and her husband, Kenneth L. Meyers, 54, after the married couple was found dead Tuesday night on a property west of Huntington in an apparent homicide-suicide.
Indiana State Police and the Huntington County Coroner’s Office responded just before 10 p.m. to a property on West Maple Grove Road in Dallas Township after relatives reported they had not seen the couple for some time. Their vehicle had been discovered parked on the property, prompting concern and a welfare check.
Deputies with the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department found both Melanie and Kenneth Meyers deceased on a lower-level floor of the property. Investigators noted evidence indicating the couple had been there for an extended period. Both had suffered gunshot wounds.
The Huntington County Coroner ruled Melanie R. Meyers’ death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound. Kenneth L. Meyers also died from a gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a suicide. Autopsies were conducted Wednesday morning at a forensic center in Fort Wayne to confirm the causes and manner of death.
As family, friends, and the community process the loss, they reflect on the lives of Melanie and Kenneth Meyers and the sorrow surrounding their sudden deaths. The investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing, and their passing has left a deep sense of grief and unanswered questions for all who knew them.
