GONZALES, Calif. — The Gonzales community is mourning the tragic loss of 22-year-old Nathan Ruiz, who was killed in a single-vehicle crash late Saturday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred on Metz Road/Highway 146, south of Stonewall Canyon Road. Ruiz was a passenger in a vehicle traveling at an unknown speed when it went off the road and rolled over. He was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Octavio Hernandez, also of Gonzales, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Natividad Medical Center. CHP has confirmed that Hernandez is facing felony DUI charges in connection with the deadly crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident to determine all contributing factors.
