FRISCO, Texas — The Frisco community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Elizabeth Angle, a 16-year-old sophomore at Wakeland High School, who was killed in a tragic sledding accident Sunday afternoon during a winter storm.
According to Frisco police and school officials, the accident occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Majestic Gardens Drive and Killian Court. Elizabeth and another 16-year-old girl were riding together on a sled that was being pulled by a Jeep Wrangler driven by a 16-year-old boy. Police said the sled struck a curb, bounced, and then collided with a tree, causing severe injuries to both girls.
Both teens were rushed to local hospitals for treatment. Despite life-saving efforts, Elizabeth Angle later died from her injuries. As of Monday morning, the second girl involved in the crash remains in critical condition, according to Frisco Police Department spokesman Ryan Thomas.
Elizabeth was a member of the Wakeland High School soccer team and was remembered by school leaders as a kind, well-liked student. Principal Donna Edge confirmed her death in a statement, writing, “Our entire campus community is impacted by this tragedy.”
Police are investigating the accident with assistance from the Denton County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed.
On Monday, community members gathered at the crash site, leaving flowers, streamers, and handwritten tributes in Elizabeth’s memory. As loved ones mourn her loss, thoughts and prayers continue for Elizabeth’s family, friends, and the critically injured teen, as a community comes together in shared grief.
