In Loving Memory of Alvin Mayweather

SHREVEPORT, La. — The DeSoto Parish community is mourning the loss of 87-year-old Alvin Mayweather, who was found dead in his home Monday morning, Jan. 26, during Winter Storm Fern.

Mayweather was discovered around 4:45 a.m. in his home along with at least one of his beloved pets. Authorities reported that a generator was running in his garage, believed to have been placed too close to the home, leading to carbon monoxide poisoning. The Louisiana Department of Health confirmed this as the cause of death.

A devoted member of Mary Evergreen Baptist Church’s male chorus, Alvin was cherished by family, friends, and neighbors. He was a loving husband and father to twin daughters, leaving behind a family who deeply mourns his sudden passing.

This marks the third winter storm-related death in the ArkLaTex region. Two other fatalities were reported in Caddo Parish: one on the 1500 block of Texas Street, and another near the YMCA on Milam Street in downtown Shreveport.

Alvin Mayweather’s life was remembered for his faith, community involvement, and love for his family and pets. His passing is a solemn reminder of the dangers associated with carbon monoxide during winter storms, and the community continues to offer support and condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.

Mayweather’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
