OKLAHOMA CITY — The northwest Oklahoma City community is grieving the tragic loss of 31-year-old Makayla Mitchell, who was killed Sunday night in a devastating sledding-related crash near Northwest 81st Street and Northwest Walker Avenue.
According to Oklahoma City police, Makayla was riding on a sled being pulled by a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Angel Walzier. Investigators said the rope connecting the sled to the car broke, causing Makayla to come to a stop in the roadway. Moments later, a separate vehicle driven by 24-year-old James Kirk struck her.

Makayla Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries, police said.
Authorities reported that both Kirk and Walzier were evaluated by a Drug Recognition Officer and were believed to be showing signs of impairment. Police obtained blood draw warrants for both individuals as part of the investigation.
James Kirk was arrested on multiple complaints, including Second-Degree Murder, aggravated DUI, child endangerment, and causing a fatality collision without a valid driver’s license. Angel Walzier was also taken into custody on a murder complaint related to the incident.
Makayla’s sudden and heartbreaking death has left family, friends, and loved ones mourning a life cut tragically short. As the investigation continues, the community is coming together in grief, remembering Makayla for the life she lived and the love she shared.
