In Loving Memory of Towan Harrington

BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. — The Bennettsville community is mourning the tragic loss of 18-year-old Towan Harrington, who was killed in a shooting Monday night at Bennets Pointe Apartments.

According to Marlboro County Coroner De’Aron Smith, the deadly incident occurred on January 26, 2026. Coroner’s Office personnel responded to the scene, where Towan Harrington was pronounced deceased. His identity was confirmed after notification of next of kin.

A comprehensive death investigation is underway involving the Marlboro County Coroner’s Office, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said a forensic autopsy has been scheduled and will be conducted later this week to determine the official cause and manner of death.

The homicide has deeply shaken family members, friends, and the Bennettsville community. At just 18 years old, Towan Harrington’s life was tragically cut short, leaving loved ones to grieve a loss that words cannot fully express.

Coroner Smith stated that investigators are committed to serving the community with dignity and professionalism as they work to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional details have been released at this time.
