CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati community is mourning the loss of 31-year-old Merris Kelley, who was killed in a shooting Tuesday evening in the Oakley neighborhood
According to Cincinnati police, the shooting occurred around 6:20 p.m. in the parking lot of the Steak ’n Shake restaurant on Ridge Avenue near Calvert Street. Officers responded to the scene and found Kelley suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the Steak ’n Shake was closed at the time of the shooting and confirmed that the restaurant itself was not connected to the incident. The shooting occurred outside in the parking lot.
Authorities confirmed that one person has been detained in connection with the shooting, though no further details about that individual have been released. The Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene and continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Kelley’s death.
