In Loving Memory of David M. Hoday

BARTLETT, Ill. — The Bartlett community is mourning the tragic loss of David M. Hoday, 64, of Woodridge, who died after being struck by a Metra train while clearing snow earlier this week.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 8:35 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Oak Avenue and Railroad Avenue. Hoday, a Bartlett Public Works employee, was operating a small snowplow vehicle at the time of the collision with an Elgin-bound Metra District West train. He was transported to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries, as confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

No passengers on the train were injured, though rail service in the area was temporarily disrupted following the crash. Investigators from the Metra Police Department, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and federal transportation officials are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities are examining whether Hoday may have begun crossing the tracks without seeing the approaching train.

The sudden and tragic death of David Hoday has left coworkers, commuters, and local residents shaken. Known for his dedication to public service, Hoday spent his career ensuring the safety and upkeep of Bartlett’s streets and infrastructure. His loss is deeply felt by the community he served and the family he leaves behind.

Metra and local authorities continue to investigate the crash to determine its cause. The community mourns the passing of a man whose life was devoted to serving others, honoring his memory during this difficult time.
