SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield community is mourning the tragic loss of Devin Cogdill, 33, who died on January 29, 2026, following a shooting at his home on East Elm Street.
According to the Springfield Police Department, officers responded at 1:57 p.m. to a welfare check at 1229 E. Elm Street. Upon arrival, they found Devin Cogdill suffering from gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later succumbed. The incident also claimed the life of Ethan Mitchell, 25, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Springfield Police Homicide Unit has confirmed that Devin was shot by Mitchell during the incident. Both men were lifelong Springfield residents, and their families have been notified. This marks Springfield’s fourth homicide investigation of 2026.
