In Loving Memory of Rebecca Gonzales

The Tucson community is mourning the tragic passing of Rebecca Gonzales, 34, who was fatally struck in a pedestrian crash on the city’s southwest side. Her life was cut short on the evening of January 9, leaving family, friends, and loved ones in deep sorrow.

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. in the area west of Valencia Road, just west of Casino Del Sol. Deputies from PCSD’s San Xavier District responded to reports of a serious crash involving a pedestrian.

A preliminary investigation determined that Rebecca Gonzales was standing in the roadway at the time of the incident. Authorities said she was wearing dark-colored clothing without reflective material, which may have made her difficult for drivers to see in the nighttime conditions.

Investigators said a westbound vehicle was unable to avoid the pedestrian and struck Gonzales. A second vehicle traveling behind the first also hit her moments later. Both drivers immediately called 9-1-1, remained at the scene, and attempted to provide aid.

Despite emergency response efforts, Rebecca Gonzales was pronounced deceased at the scene due to the injuries she sustained.

Authorities believe a third vehicle, described as a lifted truck with large chrome wheels, may also have struck Gonzales. The driver of that vehicle did not remain at the scene, and investigators are continuing to search for the vehicle and its driver.

PCSD confirmed that speed and impairment were not factors for the two drivers who stayed at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing as deputies work to fully determine the sequence of events and locate the suspected third vehicle.

Rebecca Gonzales’ passing has left a profound impact on those who knew and loved her. She is remembered not just for the tragedy of her passing, but for the life she lived and the people she touched. The community continues to hold her family and friends in thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

May Rebecca Gonzales rest in peace.
