LUBBOCK, Texas —The Lubbock community is grieving the tragic loss of 19-year-old Sean Canales, who died following a motorcycle crash on Sunday night, Feb. 1, 2026.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, officers responded to a call at 7:38 p.m. near 29th Drive and the Marsha Sharp Freeway. Upon arrival, officers found Sean Canales and 17-year-old Maizie Casares, both seriously injured. They were transported to University Medical Center for emergency care. Sean Canales later succumbed to his injuries, while Maizie Casares remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Sean Canales was driving a motorcycle westbound on the freeway when it collided with a guardrail on the north side of the roadway. No other vehicles were involved, and no additional injuries were reported. The crash remains under investigation.
