Durham police say a man and woman found dead from gunshot wounds early Wednesday were once a couple and shared two children.
Authorities identified the victims as Shakeva Dixon, 27, of Durham, and Maurice Langston, 36, of Goldsboro. The pair were discovered inside an apartment at Crestview Apartments off Crest Street in Durham.
Based on preliminary findings, police say the incident appears to be a murder-suicide. Details regarding the whereabouts or ages of the couple’s children at the time of the shooting have not been released.
Forensic investigators were on the scene for several hours, photographing and collecting evidence both inside the apartment and outside, including images of a parked vehicle near the unit. Police tape remained in place while investigators conducted their work.
The Durham Police Department confirmed the investigation is ongoing, noting that officers were on site for more than nine hours as they processed the scene.
No additional details about a motive or the circumstances surrounding the deaths have been released at this time.
