Houston 13-Year-Old Girl Killed in Stabbing Identified as Riley Dearmas

HOUSTON, Texas — Authorities have identified the 13-year-old girl who died following a stabbing on Grow Lane Wednesday night as Riley Dearmas, according to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Houston police reported that the incident occurred around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Grow Lane and Dow Road, where officers responded to a large disturbance outside an apartment complex involving multiple people. Upon arrival, officers found Dearmas suffering from at least one stab wound. She was transported to a hospital, where she later died.

Police said a 10-year-old boy told authorities he stabbed Dearmas in self-defense during the altercation, which involved 20 to 30 people assaulting individuals inside the apartment. The juvenile was taken into custody Wednesday night and later released pending further investigation. Authorities stressed that the case remains under active review, and all evidence will be submitted to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges. Investigators continue to interview witnesses and review surveillance footage.

Dearmas was a student at Dean Middle School. In a statement, Principal Michael George expressed the school’s deep sorrow, calling it “a very sad time for the Dean Middle School family” and emphasizing the support available for students, staff, and families.
