Tooele Man Identified in Officer-Involved Shooting During Investigation

TOOELE, Utah — Authorities have identified the man killed during a confrontation with police on Wednesday as 43-year-old Jason Shaw of Tooele.

According to the Tooele City Police Department, officers were conducting an investigation into a shooting that occurred Tuesday night outside the Quality Quik Stop convenience store near 200 North and Broadway Avenue. As part of that investigation, officers went to a home near Main Street and 1000 North on Wednesday to locate Shaw.

Police said a confrontation occurred between Shaw and officers at the residence. Shaw was reportedly armed, and after a brief exchange, officers discharged their weapons. Shaw was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

Authorities emphasized that the events occurred while police were actively investigating the earlier convenience store shooting. Details about the initial shooting and the specific circumstances leading to the use of force have not been released.

The officer-involved shooting is under review, and officials said additional information will be released as investigators complete their work and notify all involved parties. Police also reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
