CRYSTAL BEACH, Texas — The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman killed Saturday night on Highway 87 in Crystal Beach as 57-year-old Monica Breland.
The tragic incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of Highway 87, near Jose’s Cantina. According to Sheriff Jimmy Fullen, investigators do not expect any charges to be filed.
“Investigators interviewed witnesses and reviewed available video related to the crash. The investigation revealed the victim ran across the roadway in front of moving traffic and was subsequently struck by a vehicle traveling westbound,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “Based on the information obtained, the incident does not appear to be criminal in nature.”
The highway was closed for several hours while authorities conducted their investigation.
Breland’s passing is a tragic loss, and the Galveston County community mourns with her family, friends, and loved ones.
