17-Year-Old Killed in Wyoming County Snowmobile Crash

WARSAW, N.Y. — New York State Police are investigating a snowmobile crash that claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy in Wyoming County on Sunday.

Troopers responded shortly before 12:15 p.m. to a report of a snowmobile collision on a private trail off Wilder Road in Warsaw. Authorities say Steven Gregoire, 17, of Sheldon, was traveling southbound on a marked trail when he lost control and struck a log pile, which threw him from his snowmobile.

A 16-year-old friend following behind also lost control, struck the same log pile, and was ejected. That snowmobile came to rest on top of Gregoire. Other snowmobilers in the area called 911 and assisted at the scene.

Gregoire was transported to Wyoming County Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police confirmed there were no signs of foul play. The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office is scheduled to conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, reminding recreational riders to exercise caution while on trails.
