Natchez Police Chief Identifies Woman Killed in Sunday Night Shooting

NATCHEZ, Miss. — Natchez Police Chief Caroline Green has identified the woman killed in a Sunday night shooting in Natchez as Deja Davis, 29.

According to police, Davis was sitting inside a vehicle with Curtavius Knight, 26, in the Maryland Heights subdivision when the car was struck by gunfire from one or more suspects. Davis was pronounced deceased as a result of the shooting.

Chief Green said no arrests have been made, but suspects have been identified, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Knight was seriously injured in the shooting and was airlifted from Merit Health Natchez to another hospital for treatment. As of Monday morning, authorities had not released any information regarding his condition.

Court records show that Knight previously pleaded guilty in February 2022 to accessory before the fact of first-degree murder in connection with the 2018 killing of 17-year-old Shakeria King. Prosecutors said Knight was inside a vehicle when Montreal Brown opened fire, killing King outside the Holiday Apartments.

Brown was later convicted and sentenced to 70 years in prison for King’s death. Knight received a 20-year sentence, with 10 years suspended, and was credited for approximately five years already served in the Adams County jail. He was ordered to complete the remainder of his sentence on post-release supervision.

At Knight’s sentencing, Prosecutor Shameca Collins stated that Knight provided truthful testimony that was pivotal in securing Brown’s conviction.

Police continue to investigate the shooting that claimed Davis’ life and are urging anyone with information to contact the Natchez Police Department.
