EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office has released the names of two children who died in a fire Sunday morning on Powell Avenue. They have been identified as 14-year-old Jeramya Craig and 10-year-old Paxton Craig.
The fire broke out around 1:45 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Powell Avenue. Both Jeramya and Paxton were pronounced dead at the scene. A third child was initially flown to a hospital in Indianapolis. Family members have shared a GoFundMe page indicating that all three children have now passed away, though officials have not yet confirmed the third child’s death. Other family members say the third child remains on life support.
Deputy Chief of Administration Kim Garrett praised the efforts of the firefighters involved. “They did everything they could,” Garrett said during a Monday interview, emphasizing the heroic attempts to rescue the children.
The community has responded with an outpouring of support for the family during this devastating time. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover funeral expenses and support the grieving family.
