Police Identify Victim in Troost Shooting, Investigate Homicide

Kansas City, Missouri, police have identified the victim of a Saturday evening shooting as Jessie Ross, 37.

Officers responded just after 5:30 p.m. to the 8200 block of Troost following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they were directed to a nearby convenience store, where they found Ross suffering from trauma to his head. Officers performed life-saving measures until EMS personnel transported him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Initially classified as a death investigation, the case was later upgraded to a homicide after hospital officials informed detectives that the victim had suffered a gunshot wound.

Police have identified a subject of interest and are working with prosecutors to determine applicable charges, according to a KCPD spokesperson.
