16-Year-Old Girl Killed in Early Morning Crash

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police have identified 16-year-old Danian Piper as the juvenile who was tragically killed in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday morning.

Officers responded around 1:48 a.m. to the 5700 block of Indiana Avenue after receiving reports of a crash. At the scene, two juveniles were found injured.

Investigators say a juvenile driver was operating a 2005 Honda Accord westbound on Indiana Avenue toward Bethabara Road when the vehicle lost control, left the roadway, and struck a bridge abutment before coming to a stop in the middle of the road. Piper was a passenger in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The juvenile driver was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Police report that their condition has since improved and is not considered life-threatening.

No charges have been filed at this time. The WSPD Traffic Enforcement Unit continues to investigate the crash, and the cause of the vehicle losing control remains under review.
