With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, the Wink-Loving Independent School District and the Wink community mourn the heartbreaking loss of Teagan Hernandez, a beloved student whose life was tragically taken in a fatal rollover crash late Sunday night in Winkler County, Texas.
According to the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred on County Road 201 and involved five children under the age of 16. Authorities reported that the vehicle rolled over, resulting in four of the children being ejected. Teagan Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining children suffered serious injuries and were transported for medical evaluation.
In a statement released Monday, Wink-Loving ISD confirmed Teagan’s identity and expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
“Our hearts are heavy,” the district stated. “We are grieving the loss of one of our students following a tragic car accident, and several other students are being evaluated for various injuries.”
To support those affected, the district announced that counselors will be available on-site for students and staff and asked for privacy, compassion, and prayers for the families as they navigate the days ahead.
The district also shared that Teagan’s family will be gathering at the Wink Community Center, located at 308 NW 2nd St., Wink, TX 79789, for those wishing to offer support by dropping off food, drinks, or donations. The front door will remain unlocked, and visitors are asked to sign the spiral notebook in the kitchen indicating what they brought.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is conducting the investigation into the crash. Authorities stated that no images or additional details will be released, and the scene was cleared at approximately 3:50 a.m. The investigation remains ongoing.
Teagan Hernandez is remembered for the light, love, and joy brought into the lives of family, friends, classmates, and educators. Though Teagan’s life was far too short, the impact will forever be felt within the school and the entire community.
