POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. — Authorities have identified the suspect in a fatal stabbing over the weekend as the son of the victim, according to the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect, Cody Travis Mulchi, 31, is accused of killing his mother, Melissa Ann Seamster, 52, who was found fatally stabbed Saturday evening.
Deputies responded at approximately 7:45 p.m. to the 2000 block of Red Lane Road following a report of a domestic assault. When deputies arrived, they immediately began performing CPR on Seamster, who had sustained severe stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second victim, an adult male, was also injured during the incident. He was airlifted by MedFlight to a nearby hospital and is currently listed in stable condition, officials said.
Following the stabbing, investigators say Mulchi fled to a neighboring residence, where a brief standoff occurred before he was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to an area hospital for evaluation, later released, and subsequently booked into the Pamunkey Regional Jail without bond.
Mulchi now faces multiple charges, including:
- Second-degree murder
- Malicious wounding/stabbing with intent to maim or kill
- Assault and battery of a family or household member
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details at this time.
