BELVIDERE, Ill. — The community is mourning the tragic loss of Richard Todd, 78, of Rockford, who passed away following a devastating vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 3:45 p.m., authorities responded to a serious crash at the intersection of Route 20 and Shattuck Road. Preliminary investigations indicate that a semi-truck traveling east on Route 20 collided head-on with a westbound van that crossed the center line.
Mr. Todd, who was driving the van, was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries and received treatment.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team and the Boone County Coroner continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Friends, family, and neighbors are mourning the loss of Richard, who leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and community. The outpouring of support and prayers from those in Belvidere and the surrounding area has been a comfort to his loved ones during this difficult time.
