Adrian Dawodu Identified as Victim in Fatal Shooting at 170th Street Subway Station; Suspect Remains at Large

Police have identified the man fatally shot at the 170th Street subway station as Adrian Dawodu, 41, of Manhattan. The shooting, which occurred Tuesday afternoon, marks the first homicide aboard New York City transit this year.

According to investigators, the violence erupted just before 3 p.m. on the station platform following a dispute between Dawodu and the suspected gunman. Authorities say the confrontation escalated into gunfire, and Dawodu was shot multiple times throughout his body. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Video obtained by News 12 shows the chaotic moments after the shots were fired, with Dawodu lying on the platform as the gunman fled the scene. The shooting happened during a particularly busy time of day, as students were being dismissed from school and commuters were beginning the afternoon rush.

Police say they received information that the suspect may have been hiding on Townsend Avenue, approximately eight minutes away from the station. However, responding officers were unable to locate him. The suspect is described as wearing a grey parka jacket.

The 170th Street station has seen prior incidents of gun violence. Just over a month ago, another shooting occurred at the same station, resulting in a teenager being taken into custody.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue their search for the gunman. Police are urging anyone with information to contact law enforcement as they work to bring the suspect to justice.
