One Dead in Dale County Semi-Truck Crash

DOTHAN, Ala. — Authorities say one person has died following a semi-truck crash on Highway 231 in Dale County on Thursday morning.

Dale County Coroner John Cawley identified the victim as 58-year-old Evelio DeJesus of Sebastian, Florida. According to Cawley, DeJesus was killed when his 18-wheeler ran off the highway and crashed into the treeline around 6:00 a.m.

Both northbound lanes of Highway 231 near the 48-mile marker were blocked for several hours while crews worked to remove the truck from the treeline. DeJesus’s body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

The Dothan Fire Department was called for mutual aid at approximately 6:13 a.m., according to Fire Chief David Hasty. Firefighters from the Marley Mill Volunteer Fire Department and Dothan Fire Department were on the scene to determine whether the truck was carrying hazardous materials. Authorities confirmed the truck was not transporting any hazardous materials.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
