17-Year-Old Shot and Killed Outside Kansas City Apartment Complex

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A 17-year-old boy, Jai Barnes, Jr., tragically died Tuesday afternoon after being shot outside an apartment complex in Kansas City, Kansas, authorities said.

According to the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department, officers were dispatched at 2:43 p.m. to the area of North 74th Drive and Armstrong Avenue after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Barnes had been shot. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

At this time, no suspects are in custody, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. Police have not released information regarding a possible motive.
