Marion Man Killed, Child Seriously Injured After Train Strikes Pedestrians at Kenton Avenue Crossing

MARION, Ohio — A tragic train accident Friday night claimed the life of a local man and left a 12-year-old child seriously injured after the pair were struck at a railroad crossing in the City of Marion.

According to Marion Central Dispatch, a report was received from CSX Transportation at approximately 8:41 p.m. indicating that a train had struck two pedestrians at the Kenton Avenue crossing.

When officers arrived on scene, they located two individuals near the tracks. Authorities identified the deceased victim as 33-year-old Dalton McMillen of Marion, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 12-year-old child was found suffering from serious injuries and had to be extricated from beneath the train. The child was initially transported to Marion General Hospital for treatment before being airlifted by medical helicopter to Nationwide Children’s Hospital for specialized care.

The Kenton Avenue crossing remained closed for several hours as emergency crews responded and investigators processed the scene.

The Marion Police Department confirmed that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision remains ongoing. No additional details have been released at this time.
