WACO High School Student Kyler Rugg Dies in Southeast Iowa Accident

TRENTON, Iowa — Authorities in southeast Iowa are investigating a tragic crash that claimed the life of a juvenile, identified as Kyler Rugg of the WACO Community School District in Wayland, Iowa.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred around 1:35 p.m. Friday on the 1700 block of Franklin Avenue, south of Trenton. A Nissan Pathfinder, driven by Rugg, was traveling south when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, lost control, and the vehicle rolled multiple times.

Officials reported that Kyler Rugg was ejected from the vehicle and airlifted by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed he was the sole occupant and had not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The WACO Community School District has expressed its condolences, describing Kyler as a valued student and member of their school family. Family, friends, and classmates are grieving this heartbreaking loss.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
