New Hampshire Woman Killed in Jackman Snowmobile Crash

JACKMAN, Maine — A tragic snowmobile accident in Jackman claimed the life of a New Hampshire woman on Friday.

The Maine Warden Service responded to a report of a possible fatal snowmobile crash around 11:45 a.m., according to a news release. Authorities found 23-year-old Michelle Carolina Cantos had lost control of her Polaris snowmobile and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cantos had been riding fourth in a group of five family members and friends traveling north. Officials with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife indicated that inexperience may have contributed to the crash.

The accident is under review by authorities, and officials continue to urge snowmobile riders to exercise caution, especially when traveling in groups or on unfamiliar terrain.

Cantos is remembered by her family and friends as a vibrant young woman whose life was tragically cut short.
