MCCOMB, Miss. — Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of Ke’Jaylen Cook, 14, a McComb student who was found shot Sunday afternoon near South Chestnut Street and Avenue B.
According to the McComb Police Department, officers responded to the scene at approximately 1:42 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Cook lying in the street with gunshot wounds. He was transported to the Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Chief of Police Earnest Perry confirmed that no suspects have been identified at this time. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which marks the first homicide of 2026 in the city of McComb.
The McComb School District extended condolences to the family and community while urging residents to work together to ensure safety for all children. Officials are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the McComb Police Department.
