Pueblo County — The fifth victim of Tuesday’s devastating multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 South has been identified, according to the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office.
Officials confirmed that Thomas R. Thayer of Rye, Colorado, was pronounced dead at 5:48 p.m. on February 17 at Penrose Hospital.
The crash occurred near mile marker 93 on I-25 South and involved multiple vehicles. Authorities believe severe wind and a dirt storm that drastically reduced visibility were likely contributing factors in the collision.
In total, five people have now been pronounced deceased as a result of the crash. Additionally, 28 others were transported to area hospitals for treatment of injuries. The extent of those injuries has not been fully released.
The community continues to grieve the lives lost in this tragic incident. Condolences are extended to the families and loved ones of the five victims, along with prayers for healing and recovery for those injured. Investigations into the exact circumstances of the crash remain ongoing.
