Port St. Lucie Man Arrested After Fatally Shooting Father

Port St. Lucie — A 41-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly fatally shooting his father at their home on February 18, according to the Port St. Lucie Police Department.

Police identified the victim as Glen Morrison, 69. Authorities said the deadly incident occurred in the garage of their home on the 5900 block of Northwest Ketona Circle, off West Torino Parkway, east of Interstate 95. Investigators were called to the scene around 7:47 a.m.

The suspect, Sheldon Morrison, 41, was apprehended around 1:30 p.m. in Hollywood, Florida, just hours after the shooting. Police said Sheldon Morrison is believed to have used a semi-automatic handgun during the incident and initially fled the scene in a beige or gold Cadillac sedan.

Port St. Lucie Police Chief Leo Niemczyk said the shooting appeared to stem from a disagreement between father and son. “The son retreated inside the house, came into possession of a firearm, and returned to the garage where he shot his father,” Niemczyk said. Officials were notified of the incident by Glen Morrison’s wife. Only Glen Morrison, his wife, and son were at home at the time of the shooting.

Neighbors described the Morrison family as quiet and friendly. “Nice guy, quiet… he walks his dog,” said 78-year-old neighbor Mitchell Oxendine, who lived across the street. Another neighbor, Donna Tighe, called the shooting “uncalled for, totally,” noting the normally peaceful nature of the neighborhood.

This incident marks at least the third deadly shooting in the area in recent days. St. Lucie County authorities recently arrested Antony Ramos, 17, in connection with the Feb. 16 fatal shooting of Mario Jose Romero Alonzo, 29, and Fort Pierce Police identified 34-year-old Anbut Brutus as the victim of another shooting earlier this month.

The investigation into the shooting of Glen Morrison is ongoing. Police continue to gather evidence and ask anyone with information to contact the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
