NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk community and the Navy are mourning the loss of Fire Controlman (Aegis) 1st Class Alonzo Tablet Martin Jr., who was found deceased Friday, January 10, 2026, inside a building at Naval Station Norfolk.
Martin Jr., originally from Missouri, enlisted in the Navy on January 28, 2015, and had been assigned to Surface Combat Systems Training Command Detachment Middle Atlantic since November 2023. He served as an instructor, training and mentoring Sailors, and was recognized for his dedication, leadership, and professionalism.

Officials report that his death has been classified as a non-combat, medically unattended death. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is assisting in determining the circumstances surrounding his passing.
Commander Laura K. Stegherr expressed condolences, saying, “The Navy mourns the loss of our shipmate and sends condolences to FCA1 Martin’s family, friends, and fellow Sailors during this difficult time.” Support and grief-counseling services are available through Naval Station Norfolk’s Fleet and Family Support Center and chaplain.
