Woman Identified as Daneshia Heller in Fort Lauderdale Homicide Investigation

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A homicide investigation is underway after a woman found dead at a Fort Lauderdale apartment complex was identified by family members as Daneshia Heller.

According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, officers were called just before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to the 1500 block of Southwest Second Street. When they arrived, they discovered a woman’s body near a dumpster at the Alden Apartments complex, located next to North Fork Elementary School.

A man who called 911 said he discovered the body and told reporters it appeared battered and had been covered with cardboard boxes from the trash. Authorities set up a blue tent at the scene as detectives began processing evidence.

Sky 10 aerial footage showed a heavy police presence, with approximately 20 to 30 patrol vehicles surrounding the complex. Yellow crime scene tape blocked off several buildings while detectives photographed the area and used forensic kits as part of the investigation.

However, a detective at the scene said the woman’s body did not show obvious visible injuries, leaving investigators working to determine exactly what occurred and how she died.

Police have not yet released additional details regarding a possible suspect or motive. Authorities said the official identification would be confirmed once next of kin notification procedures were complete.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the Fort Lauderdale Police Department at 954-828-5700 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

The investigation remains active.
