Unresponsive Man Found Dead in Mifflin; Investigation Ongoing

MIFFLIN, Ohio — The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 26-year-old man who was found unresponsive Wednesday evening at a residence in Mifflin.

Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 5:04 p.m. on Feb. 19 to a home at 39 Maine Street following a report of an unresponsive person. Responding agencies included the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Mifflin Township Fire Department, and Mifflin Village Police Department.

First responders located Brandon Sheaffer, 26, lying unconscious on the floor. Life-saving measures were initiated, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office reported that the circumstances surrounding Sheaffer’s death are under investigation. Officials from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification, Mifflin Village Police, and the Ashland County Coroner’s Office are assisting with the inquiry. As of Thursday, the coroner has not determined an official cause of death.

Authorities said there are no immediate safety concerns for residents. Detectives continue to interview witnesses and review evidence from the scene.
