HIGHWAY 586 FATAL CRASH CLAIMS TWO LIVES

MARION COUNTY, Miss. — Two people tragically lost their lives in a head-on collision on Highway 586 on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred around 3:23 p.m. when a 1993 Buick Roadmaster, driven by 58-year-old Charles L. Jackson of Foxworth, was traveling westbound. The vehicle collided with a 2024 Genesis passenger car driven by 72-year-old Evelyn M. McGowan of Jayess, who was traveling eastbound.

Mr. Jackson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Mrs. McGowan was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later passed away from her injuries.

Both victims were long-time members of their communities, remembered by friends and family for their kindness and contributions to the area. The sudden loss has left loved ones and neighbors mourning.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution on the roads, especially in high-traffic areas, to help prevent further tragedies.
