GEORGE COUNTY, MS — Authorities are investigating a fatal incident following a physical altercation early Saturday morning in George County.
According to the George County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly after midnight on February 21, 2026, to a report of a physical altercation involving an adult male. Upon arrival, they found an unconscious man, later identified as 33-year-old Ashton Davis of Lucedale. Deputies immediately began providing medical aid until emergency medical services arrived. Davis was transported to George County Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Further investigation revealed that the altercation involved a suspect identified as 36-year-old David Vice, also of Lucedale, Mississippi. Vice was arrested and charged with Homicide – By Committing a Misdemeanor. He is currently being held at the George County Regional Correctional Facility.
“This was a tragic incident that resulted in the loss of life,” said Sheriff Mitchell Mixon. “Our deputies and investigators worked diligently through the night to determine what occurred, and we remain committed to ensuring a thorough and complete investigation.”
