Salem, Ore. — The Salem community is mourning the tragic death of Sean Elliott Mobley, 37, who lost his life in a motorcycle crash in south Salem on Wednesday morning, January 15, 2026. His passing marks the first fatal traffic accident within Salem city limits this year.
According to Salem Police, the crash occurred at approximately 10:03 a.m. at the intersection of Hines Street SE and 18th Street SE. Sean was riding a 2018 Honda motorcycle westbound on Hines Street after turning from Commercial Street SE. As he attempted to accelerate past a Honda SUV, the SUV’s driver, a 28-year-old, turned left onto 18th Street SE, resulting in a collision.

Sean sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene when officers arrived. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. Police reported that no arrests were made and no citations have been issued. The crash remains under investigation.
Following the incident, authorities temporarily closed Hines Street from Mission Street SE to 17th Street SE and 18th Street SE from Waller Street SE to Cross Street SE while the scene was processed. Roads were reopened shortly after noon.
Sean is remembered as a kind-hearted, adventurous soul with a deep passion for motorcycles and life itself. His sudden loss has left family, friends, and the entire community grieving a life taken far too soon.
