The Celeste, Texas community is mourning following a deadly crash on U.S. Highway 69 that claimed the life of Elaine Fleming, 69, and left two others injured.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal collision occurred near the intersection of U.S. 69 and County Road 1036, approximately one mile north of Greenville. Investigators determined that a 2014 Toyota Camry traveling southbound failed to maintain a single lane and collided with a northbound 2016 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck.
Elaine Fleming, the driver of the Toyota Camry and a resident of Celeste, was killed at the scene. DPS said the driver of the Dodge Ram 2500 sustained incapacitating injuries and was transported to Medical City of Plano for treatment. A passenger in the pickup truck was taken to Hunt Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash caused U.S. Highway 69 to be shut down in both directions for several hours as emergency crews responded and investigators worked the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
As the investigation continues, the Celeste community is united in grief, offering prayers and support to Elaine Fleming’s family and to the injured victims. This tragic incident has left a lasting impact on all who knew her and on the community as a whole.
