The Springfield community is mourning the tragic loss of Brandon Watt, 22, who was fatally shot on the night of Thursday, January 15, 2026. This marks Springfield’s second homicide investigation of the year.
According to Springfield Police Department reports, officers responded at 11:51 p.m. to a call of a shooting near the intersection of Kimbrough Avenue and Elm Street. Upon arrival, officers found Brandon Watt suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. His family has been notified.

Authorities identified Dawson Smith, 20, also of Springfield, as the suspect. Smith was taken into custody at the scene. The case will be reviewed by the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office to determine appropriate charges.
