SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City community is mourning the tragic loss of Tyson Scott Babb, 42, who was fatally shot Tuesday morning near East High School.
Authorities said the incident occurred just after 5 a.m. near 1300 East and 700 South. Police reported that Babb was involved in a dispute reportedly related to a bike theft when he was shot by 23-year-old Shane Hagaman, who was later arrested and booked on suspicion of murder.
Sgt. Greg Wilkin of the Salt Lake City Police Department said there had been an altercation between a group of adults in the area before shots were fired, though it remains unclear whether the individuals knew each other.
The shooting scene required police to temporarily block off a nearby gas station while homicide detectives conducted their investigation. East High School, located near the scene, held classes as scheduled, but the community remains shaken by the tragedy.
Friends, family, and neighbors are remembering Tyson Babb for the life he led and the impact he had on those around him. His sudden and violent death has left a profound void, and the Salt Lake City community continues to support his loved ones during this difficult time.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are urging anyone with information to contact the Salt Lake City Police Department.
