Wichita Falls, Texas — The Wichita Falls community is mourning the tragic death of Mary Perez, 70, who was killed in a devastating accident in front of Crockett Elementary School on January 13, 2026, at approximately 4:50 p.m.
According to authorities, Mary was crossing the street to pick up her grandchild when she stepped between two vehicles in the school’s pickup line. The driver of a black Hyundai Santa Fe attempted to stop as Mary entered between her vehicle and a gray Hyundai Santa Fe in front. The driver stated that her foot slipped off the brake and hit the accelerator, causing her vehicle to strike Mary and pin her briefly between the two vehicles.
