The Junction City, Kansas, community is mourning the tragic loss of John Day, 66, who was fatally shot on the afternoon of January 17, 2025, on the 300 block of West 4th Street.
According to the Junction City Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 4:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a person suffering from possible gunshot wounds. Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Day, a long-time resident of Junction City, injured and suffering from a gunshot. He was immediately transported to Stormont Vail Flint Hills Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Police have identified and interviewed all individuals present at the scene, and the investigation remains active. At this time, no arrests have been made, and authorities emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Once the investigation concludes, the case will be submitted to the Geary County District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges are warranted.
